Get More Healthy Protein Into Your Diet

If you’re looking to take your diet in a new direction, one of the things you might be thinking about is how you can get more healthy protein into your diet. This is a focus for many people right now and it might just pay off for you if you’re currently lacking protein in your diet. Anyone looking to work out and grow their muscles definitely needs to up their protein intake. Here’s more about how you can do that.

Snack on Greek Yogurt and Almonds

Snacking can be tough as most snack foods are very carb-heavy. But there certainly are some protein-based snacks out there. Greek yogurt is one great example of that. If you combine it with some nuts, especially almonds, it can make a great quick snack that’s protein heavy and great-tasting. What’s not to like?

Add Tuna or Salmon to Your Salads

If you’re someone who tries to be healthy at lunch times by eating salads, you can add more protein to your diet with the help of fish. A little tuna or even some salmon if you want to push the boat out can make a big difference. Tuna salads are great and there are all kinds of ways to approach them. Experiment until you find the fish-themed salad that suits your palette.

Choose Lean Cuts of Meat

When eating meat, you’ll get the most in terms of health proteins if you choose leaner cuts. You don’t want to eat pieces of meat that are too fatty because they won’t offer as much of the healthy protein that you’re looking for. Lean chicken or the right cuts of beef are great for protein, but don’t load up on unnecessary amounts of fat unless you’re looking to gain fat weight rather than muscle weight. While we love our red meats in this house, we have come to realize that we eat more than we should, and have begun to scale back in favor of chicken and pork.

Try Making Spanish Tortillas

One of the ways in which you can get more protein into your diet is by finding great staple recipes that are high in protein and very easy to modify and make when you’re in a hurry. The spanish tortilla is a perfect example of a dish like that. It’s versatile, it tastes great, it’s high in protein and there’s nothing particularly complicated about making it once you know what you’re doing. My kids make their own all the time!, because they are quick, easy and filling.

Incorporate Eggs Into Your Breakfast

Finally, you should think about how you start each and every day. There are lots of ways to get more protein into your breakfast, but eggs are among the most common and most popular. Replace things like whole grains that you might normally eat in the morning with eggs and maybe some bacon if you want an extra dose of protein to start your day off on the right foot. With 4 chickens in our backyard, we always have fresh eggs available, and they are a staple in our diet. I like to keep a dozen or two hardboiled as well, because they make great quick snacks.

If you want to get more protein into your diet and feel the benefits that come with doing so, be sure to make the most of the simple and straightforward ideas discussed above. And if you’re going to make any drastic changes to your diet, be sure to consult with your doctor before doing so.
