3 Ingredient Homemade Deodorant

Deodorant-Ingredients

I have been having a personal issue lately….my deodorants haven’t been working for me, and my sweat was giving off a funny odor. After doing some research, I found that my gluten free diet could be changing the way my body odor smells, and while it was not pleasant before (what BO is?) it was just unbearable now. I had two choices, re-add gluten back into my diet, which would cause my migraines to return; or find a deodorant that worked. I tried all sorts of different ones, including clinical strength and they would be ok for about an hour and would need to be reapplied or the smell would return. Yes, I shower daily…..

So, while that may be embarrassing to admit, it is the truth, and I couldn’t hide it anymore. I needed something different. I found this recipe on Mind Body Green, and loved the simplicity of it, plus it had rave reviews. I figured for 3 ingredients, all of which I already had, I would give it a try.

Tropical Traditions sent me a jar of their coconut oil to review, gosh…..a few months ago, and I feel bad, because I had NO CLUE what to do with this stuff! When I found that it was one of the ingredients, I was thrilled!

Check out how easy this is!

  • 6 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup of  cornstarch
  • your favorite essential oil (optional)

I didn’t have any essential oil, and I wasn’t about to buy any, so my deodorant turned out to be coconut scented. I just added the ingredients to the food processor and mixed until smooth.

I found a nice jar at the Dollar Tree, along with a 10 pack of those small plastic containers, which I figured would be great to keep in my purse. I scooped the mixture into the small container until full, then put the rest into the glass jar.

To apply, you just dip your finger in and scoop out a little bit, and rub into your underarms. I am going on 4 hours with no need to reapply, which is fantastic! Not only does it seem to be working, but it is all natural, simple and cheap.

UPDATE: It has now been 9 hours with no need to reapply! I think I am in LOVE!
