Super Hemp Seed and Omega Superfood

Hemp Seeds

The name can be a bit of a shocker to those who don’t understand Hemp Seeds. I admit to being shocked when Super Hemp Seed and Omega Superfood asked me to review their Raw Organic Shelled Hemp Seeds. “Will it cause me to fail a drug test!?” was at the top of my list, although I am not sure why. Working for myself has many benefits, one of which is not being required to be drug tested; yet it still made me nervous, so I started my research!

According to Wikipedia:

Hemp (from Old English hænep) is a commonly used term for high-growing varieties of the Cannabis plant and its products, which include fiber, oil, and seed. Hemp is refined into products such as hemp seed foods, hemp oil, wax, resin, rope, cloth, pulp, paper, and fuel.

Other variants of the herb Cannabis sativa are widely used as a drug, commonly known as marijuana. These variants are typically low-growing and have higher content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The legality of Cannabis varies widely from country to country, and from state to state in the United States. In many countries regulatory limits for concentrations of psychoactive drug compounds, particularly THC, in hemp require the use of strains of the plant which are bred for low content.

The short of it is that hemp and cannabis can be brought on a Canadian weed online website but they are indeed different, and hemp does not contain THC, so they would not cause you to fail a drug test, nor would you get a “high” feeling from eating them. Well ok then, I was in! Let’s try these babies out!

Hemp Seeds are best known for having high amounts of healthy essential fatty acids, and contain a 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 essential fatty acids. These Super Hemp seeds have all 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential ones and they contain both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber.

I found that these tasted almost, if not (I didn’t try them right next to each other) exactly like shelled sunflower seeds. Due to this, I would expect it to be great as a salad topper. However, I have been just eating them right out of the bag. They are very tasty!

Mama Likes to Cook has a couple recipes containing Hemp Seeds, and they both look AMAZING! Check them out, I know that I will be making these very soon!

Another recipe is Banana Hemp Sushi, which is pretty awesome!

While I started out a little nervous, I must say that I am highly impressed with the punch these tiny seeds pack. They will be a staple in this house for many years to come.
