Unschooling Conferences as a great way to meet new friends!

Kalahari Resorts

Back in 2014, we all took a trip to New Hampshire for the Life Rocks! Unschooling conference. We all had a blast and met some new friends. We were still new to unschooling, so it was a very educational trip on top of a fun time. We met up with Dayna and Joe Martin, and their amazingly talented children. We also met Erica and Brian, whom I have become quite close to, even though we live many miles away. Erica and I seem to be quite in sync with not only our hobbies and interests, but also our fashion sense, it’s great! We have children who are close in age and enjoyed their interactions at the conference, but haven’t really gotten to know each other due, although they had a great time at the conference playing with the NERF guns, swimming, creating art and so much more.

Two years later and I find ourselves going to the Unschoolers Waterpark Gathering in Sandusky, Ohio. It was completely out of the blue. Erica mentioned that her and her family were going, though we had no plans to go, and I didn’t even think we’d be able to fit it into our small budget. I still kind of don’t but when I received a random payment from an advertiser literally minutes after saying we wouldn’t be able to make it, I knew it was a sign that we had to go. The family rate of the conference was ending tomorrow, and the payment from the advertiser exactly matched the price of the reduced rate tickets. I mean, how much more of a sign did I need?! I instantly registered my family of 8 to go, and I am really excited to meet up with Erica and her family after two years of not seeing eachother in person.

The conference is being held from May 22nd through the 27th at Kalahari Resort in Ohio. Once I told my kids about plans, they were all excited! Lilli, my 5 year old, went to pack her things. Apparently she has no sense of time and thought we were leaving immediately, guess we will have to work on that. Syra, my 10 year old, asked if she could bring her bathing suit. Well of COURSE YOU CAN! This place has an AMAZING indoor waterpark! I can’t wait to get there and play in the water ALL DAY LONG!

As for the Unschooling Conference, we have awesome events to look forward to, such as; Pizza parties, NERF wars, Zombie Tag, Music Jam Sessions, Art Classes, Dancing and SO MUCH MORE! I plan to tell you guys all about it, and probably will write more about our plans before we leave too, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
